2019 Memphremagog Winter Swim Festival Results

Courtesy of Phil White and Patricia Przybylinski, Lake Memphremagog, Newport, Vermont, U.S.A..

The 5th Annual Memphremagog Winter Swim Festival was successfully held over the weekend in a two-lane, 25-meter pool cut in the ice in Lake Memphremagog in Newport Vermont [see aerial view on left].

Event director Phil White reported, "The water temperature was 31°F (-0.55°C). Saturday was sunny, windless with air temperatures in the 20°F's to low 30°F's. On Sunday, the water temperature was again 31°F.

But it was cloudy with winds from the south as the skies cleared a bit that turned to rain after the event was over.

On Saturday, Cathy Delneo led a tribute to Lynn Kubasek [who passed away on January 24th, see here]. Bill Shipp then provided each swimmer with a ribbon in tribute to a those who have battled or who are battling cancer. The ribbons were then tossed into the pool

2014 Open Water Swimming Almanac

An Almanac for Open Water Swimming

An almanac is essentially a body of knowledge which is so complete that it enables people in different fields to make predictions about the future of their respective industries.

This, for example, was the purpose of the traditional farmers almanacs. It enabled farmers to determine as accurately as possible which crops to plant for the greatest harvests in a given year.

But the farmers almanac was just one example among many.
There are, of course, many different kinds of almanacs.

In fact, there is even one for open water swimming...
