All In The Family

Damián Blaum is ready to swim another 57 km in the Maratón Acuática Internacional Santa Fe – Coronda in the Río Coronda in Argentina while his wife Esther Nuñez Morera and child Gala will be ready at the finish line on February 3rd.

Blaum last won the race in 2017 [see finish photo above], "I am very happy to be back here in Santa Fe. Now we just have to rest and swim well on Sunday."

While he didn't win in 2018, Blaum described last year as "...the best year of my life with the arrival of Gala. I was able to fully enjoy her first year of life, and the growth of the baby is something incomparable. So now I'm looking to settle in and have a good season in 2019."

A key issue in this year's race will be the height of the Río Coronda. Blaum explained the impact of having more water than normal in the river, "It is treading at 5.30, almost the same mark as it was in the year that the record was set in 2010. Is it going to rain" There are many things that can affect the swimmers so we have to be prepared for whatever comes during the race.

It will be a tough race with many very good swimmers. I know that I am considered a pre-race favorite, but there are three strong Italians are strong, the Brazilian, Evgenij Pop Acev, the Ecuadorian are all good so the race can be won by any of these swimmers

The Other Shore

The Other Shore follows world record holder and legendary swimmer Diana Nyad as she comes out of a thirty-year retirement to re-attempt an elusive dream: swimming 103 miles non-stop from Cuba to Florida without the use of a shark cage. Her past and present collide in her obsession with a feat that nobody has ever accomplished. At the edge of The Devil’s Triangle, tropical storms, sharks, venomous jellyfish, and one of the strongest ocean currents in the world, all prove to be life-threatening realities. Timothy Wheeler’s documentary brings Diana Nyad’s extraordinary adventure to life as Diana sets out to prove that will and determination are all you need to make the unimaginable possible.

2014 Open Water Swimming Almanac

An Almanac for Open Water Swimming

An almanac is essentially a body of knowledge which is so complete that it enables people in different fields to make predictions about the future of their respective industries.

This, for example, was the purpose of the traditional farmers almanacs. It enabled farmers to determine as accurately as possible which crops to plant for the greatest harvests in a given year.

But the farmers almanac was just one example among many.
There are, of course, many different kinds of almanacs.

In fact, there is even one for open water swimming...

The trends are very clear.
The tide is rising for open water swimming.
