Tim Marr, Rachel Randall Win North Shore 10K

Courtesy of Chris Gardner, North Shore, Oahu, Hawaii.

Tim Marr and Rachel Randall won the inaugural Aqua Sphere North Shore 10K Swim on the famed north shore of Oahu in Hawaii.

North Shore Swim Series race director Chris Gardner reports, "Oahu’s North Shore is supposed to be flat as lake in September, but the surf along the 7 mile Miracleʻ - as it is known in the surf world - kicked up to 4 - 6 feet giving the field of 10 km marathon swimmers more of a challenge.

The course for the 10 km swim was an out & back course from world-famous Waimea Bay to the ½ way turnaround at Sunset Beach. Former pro triathlete and Hawaii local Tim Marr was first up the sand at Waimea Bay with a time of 2 hours 26 minutes. Rachel Randall was the first wahine [female] to finish in a time of 2 hours 35 minutes.

Shout out to 74-year-old Ulrich Klinke who finished the 10 km swim with a time of 3 hours 37 minutes and then dried off and headed to Waikiki to be inducted into the Hawaii Swimming Hall of Fame

2014 Open Water Swimming Almanac

An Almanac for Open Water Swimming

An almanac is essentially a body of knowledge which is so complete that it enables people in different fields to make predictions about the future of their respective industries.

This, for example, was the purpose of the traditional farmers almanacs. It enabled farmers to determine as accurately as possible which crops to plant for the greatest harvests in a given year.

But the farmers almanac was just one example among many.
There are, of course, many different kinds of almanacs.

In fact, there is even one for open water swimming...
