Really, Really Going The Distance

Courtesy of U.S. Masters Swimming.

The U.S. Masters Swimming Go The Distance (GTD) Program is a self-directed event intended to encourage adult swimmers to track their swimming distance in a pool or the open water.

There is no time limit for the distance milestones. Speed doesn’t count — just the cumulative distance that is on the honor system. Individuals track and report the distances they swim and input that information in their Fitness Log (FLOG).

The cumulative and daily average swim distances of the top swimmers who have swum 1,500 miles or more during one calendar year are below:

2017 Go The Distance Results:
1. Doug Allen (58) 2,957.96 total miles (8.1 miles or 13.04 daily km average)

2014 Open Water Swimming Almanac

An Almanac for Open Water Swimming

An almanac is essentially a body of knowledge which is so complete that it enables people in different fields to make predictions about the future of their respective industries.

This, for example, was the purpose of the traditional farmers almanacs. It enabled farmers to determine as accurately as possible which crops to plant for the greatest harvests in a given year.

But the farmers almanac was just one example among many.
There are, of course, many different kinds of almanacs.

In fact, there is even one for open water swimming...
