Round And Round He Goes, Andy Truscott Around Jersey

Courtesy of WOWSA, Huntington Beach, California.

Andy Truscott of the Jersey Long Distance Swimming Club, will attempt his third career pioneering swim, an unprecedented Double Round Jersey.

The swim is a consecutive two-time circumnavigation swim around the island of Jersey in the English Channel.

His window will start on Friday July 13th on the week's tide.

Truscott was originally inspired by Sally Minty-Gravett, also of Jersey, who completed two Round Jersey swims with one day’s break between swims in 2016. Her accomplishment led Truscott to consider the possibility of a Double Round Jersey. His goal is to complete the charity swim challenge in under 24 hours.

He is training, planning, and concurrently raising funds for two charities. Truscott is a member of the Plastic Free Jersey initiative and swimming for Littlefeet Environmental that specializes in coastal protection of Jersey’s beaches and headlands with beach cleaning initiatives and environmental education and awareness.

Courtney of Littlefeet Environmental says, “We’re so grateful for the hard work and passion that Andy has and we’re so flatted that we are one of the chosen charities – we wish him the best of luck in his double-round island swim."

Truscott's other charity of choice is the RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution). Truscott said, “It’s always good to raise funds for any charity and with half my life in and around the water, I wanted to raise funds for charities that are close to me. The volunteers at the Jersey RNLI do a good job within the Island and rely on funds raised. It’s nice to give a little back."

Matt Clarke of Lionheart Pilotage will serve as his escort pilot.

Truscott is going for his third career unprecedented swim. His first two record-setting swims were successful. He became the first solo person to swim from Les Minquiers to Jersey in 2016 in time 7 hours 17 minutes in 2016. He was also the first person to complete a two-way crossing between Jersey and France in 2017. 2018 will see him attempt his longest pioneering swim to date.

2014 Open Water Swimming Almanac

An Almanac for Open Water Swimming

An almanac is essentially a body of knowledge which is so complete that it enables people in different fields to make predictions about the future of their respective industries.

This, for example, was the purpose of the traditional farmers almanacs. It enabled farmers to determine as accurately as possible which crops to plant for the greatest harvests in a given year.

But the farmers almanac was just one example among many.
There are, of course, many different kinds of almanacs.

In fact, there is even one for open water swimming...
