Living A Purposeful Life In The Ocean

Courtesy of Bob Burnside, Newport Beach, California.

Part of Water is a film tribute to an unlikely Southern California lifeguard Ben Carlson and the remarkable world of ocean lifeguarding. The film was recently funded by a successful Kickstarter campaign.

"We reached our goal of US$25,000 in less than 48 hours. It is seriously incredible to see such support from everyone and we couldn't be more thankful to all for getting behind us. We had people donate from all around the world which truly speaks volumes to the kind of impact Ben Carlson has had throughout. Truly an inspiration," said filmmaker Tim Burnham.

"Our campaign runs through May 17th so if you have any friends that still would like to support and receive a t-shirt or tickets to the premiere, please feel free to share. We can't wait to bring Ben's story and the story of Lifeguarding to the big screen. Thank you for allowing us to make this happen."

Co-creator Jack Murgatroyd explains, "Our film is the story of a dreamer, of a fighter, of a man blind with conviction. As a lifeguard, he was the utmost professional, a steward of the beach, the savior of countless beach goers and a veteran of over 15 years. As a man, he was someone who fought for what he believed in and despite adversity eventually carved out a spot for himself in the Newport community and found the acceptance he was looking for.

Our film is going to be the exploration of a life lived with passion and ferocity, the story of the outsider who fought to be accepted to the world he knew he deserved
."

2014 Open Water Swimming Almanac

An Almanac for Open Water Swimming

An almanac is essentially a body of knowledge which is so complete that it enables people in different fields to make predictions about the future of their respective industries.

This, for example, was the purpose of the traditional farmers almanacs. It enabled farmers to determine as accurately as possible which crops to plant for the greatest harvests in a given year.

But the farmers almanac was just one example among many.
There are, of course, many different kinds of almanacs.

In fact, there is even one for open water swimming...
