Gran Fondo Italia 2018

Open water swimmers interested in marathons in Italy, the six-stage Gran Fondo Italia offers races from Milan to the Strait of Bonifacio.

First Stage on June 23rd: 15 km Gran Fondo Cinque Terre in Portovenere (La Spezia), Liguria. Swim along the coast of the Cinque Terre Marine Protected Area. For information, visit here.

Second Stage on July 7th: 1.5 km and 15 km (solo and relay) Gran Fondo Venezia in Cavallino Treporti (Venezia), Veneto. Swim along the dunes and the pinewood of Venice. For information, visit here.

Third Stage on July 21st: 4 km, 17 km Gran Fondo Porto Conte in Alghero, Sardinia. Swim along the Porto Conte Regional Natural Park. For information, visit here.

Fourth Stage on August 25th: 15 km Gran Fondo Sanremo in Sanremo (Imperia), Liguria. Swim in the town of flowers. For information, visit here.

Fifth Stage on September 8th: 24 km Gran Fondo Naviglio Grande in Milan, Lombardia. Swim in the waterways through Milan. For information, visit here.

Sixth Stage on September 19th - 23rd: 15-17 km Gran Fondo Bocche di Bonifacio in Santa Teresa Gallura (Sassari), Sardinia. Cross-border swim in the Strait of Bonifacio between Corsica in France and Sardinia in Italy. For information, visit here.

Each race has the lowest possible environmental impact in terms of the means used with the assistance of canoeists and kayakers. 'Gran Fondo' in Italian means long distance.

An Almanac for Open Water Swimming

An almanac is essentially a body of knowledge which is so complete that it enables people in different fields to make predictions about the future of their respective industries.

This, for example, was the purpose of the traditional farmers almanacs. It enabled farmers to determine as accurately as possible which crops to plant for the greatest harvests in a given year.

But the farmers almanac was just one example among many.
There are, of course, many different kinds of almanacs.

In fact, there is even one for open water swimming...
