Spyros Chrysikopoulos: 2 Parts Heart + 1 Part Obsession

Courtesy of Spyros Chrysikopoulos and director Dimitra Babadima, Toroneos Bay, Greece.

Spyros Chrysikopoulos was the protoganist of H2O: 2 parts Heart, 1 part Obsession, a documentary film by Dimitra Babadima about his 104 km four-way crossing of Toroneos Bay in Greece.

The film about the 26-year-old former triathlete-turned-swimmer and his dream to swim 100 km in the open water was the most successful film at the 2017 Adventure Film Festival in Greece.

His friend Petros Parthenis, the Weswim Founder, describes his long-range plans to achieve his personal open water swimming goals. "He wants to break the world distance record in the open sea in 2020. Right now, he chooses to swim with neoprene because of his low fat body measurements. He swam 104 km in Toroneos Gulf in 34 hours [shown above].

In October, he is planning to swim 140 km from the island of Rhodes to Kastelorizo, roughly 2 km off the south coast of Turkey in the Aegean Sea. We will support him in setting the new Greek ultra swimming record and one of the longest swims in the world.

He has unique abilities that can be used to promote open water swimming and show people around the world the beauty of Greece and how far a person can push themselves

His training will be appropriately intense. Chrysikopoulos will swim 100 km in a 50m pool at between May 5th - 7th while also regularly doing 30 km and 50 km swims in his training.

You can follow Chrysikopoulos and his preparations for his 140 km swim (86.9-mile) swim on his Facebook page here.

The Other Shore

The Other Shore follows world record holder and legendary swimmer Diana Nyad as she comes out of a thirty-year retirement to re-attempt an elusive dream: swimming 103 miles non-stop from Cuba to Florida without the use of a shark cage. Her past and present collide in her obsession with a feat that nobody has ever accomplished. At the edge of The Devil’s Triangle, tropical storms, sharks, venomous jellyfish, and one of the strongest ocean currents in the world, all prove to be life-threatening realities. Timothy Wheeler’s documentary brings Diana Nyad’s extraordinary adventure to life as Diana sets out to prove that will and determination are all you need to make the unimaginable possible.

2014 Open Water Swimming Almanac

An Almanac for Open Water Swimming

An almanac is essentially a body of knowledge which is so complete that it enables people in different fields to make predictions about the future of their respective industries.

This, for example, was the purpose of the traditional farmers almanacs. It enabled farmers to determine as accurately as possible which crops to plant for the greatest harvests in a given year.

But the farmers almanac was just one example among many.
There are, of course, many different kinds of almanacs.

In fact, there is even one for open water swimming...
