SoelCat, A Sustainable Ship For Swimmers

Courtesy of Seven Seas.

Soel Yachts makes a solar electric catamaran for coastal waters and inter-island transport that help make eco-swims live up to their missions and ecotourism sustainable.

"It is great to see a lot of green initiatives at resorts these days, however, water bound transport always seems to be neglected," said Joep Koster, the designer and naval architect for Soel Yachts.

"The SoelCat 12 offers a 100% sustainable alternative to conventionally powered boats. Taking your guests on a lagoon tour without the noise and smell of combustions engines opens up unique PR values, given that people will experience sustainable technology hands on."

"The SoelCat 12 seems like the ideal escort boat for open water swims, channel swims, marathon swims and charity swims that champion charitable programs and public relation campaigns related to helping improve the marine environment or protecting marine life," observed Steven Munatones.

The SoelCat is designed for use in saltwater and can be beached on sandy beaches due to its hull built from lightweight fiberglass composite.

David Czap of Naval DC explains, "Lightness is key to the vessel's performance. The SoelCat 12 can operate for 6 hours at 8 knots speed on the batteries alone. At 6 knots, the vessel operates entirely off the energy provided by the solar panels during sunshine hours.

It can be easily transported at affordable rates to remote areas or islands all over the world. Launch will be in the second quarter of 2017. Interested customers and swimmers can register for Soel Yachts for test drives.

2014 Open Water Swimming Almanac

An Almanac for Open Water Swimming

An almanac is essentially a body of knowledge which is so complete that it enables people in different fields to make predictions about the future of their respective industries.

This, for example, was the purpose of the traditional farmers almanacs. It enabled farmers to determine as accurately as possible which crops to plant for the greatest harvests in a given year.

But the farmers almanac was just one example among many.
There are, of course, many different kinds of almanacs.

In fact, there is even one for open water swimming...
