Fran Crippen's Legacy Continues On South Padre Island

The South Padre Island Open Water Festival is also proud to announce a partnership with the Fran Crippen Elevation Foundation.

"Part of the Fran Crippen Elevation Foundation's mission is to act as a central voice for safety in open water swimming. With water quality and temperature being such a big issue before the Rio Olympics and in other locations across the world, Open Water Planet is excited to bring an event to an area that has won awards for having some of the cleanest water in the country," says visionary and CEO Bobby Brewer.

"The ability to partner with Elevation allows us to provide educational information to our participants that can be applied, not only to this event, but also how to monitor environmental factors in everyday training."

In addition to the partnership with the Foundation, Brewer also partnered with Olympic champions Rowdy Gaines and Lenny Krayzelburg as announcers and personable hosts to the weekend.

It will be a weekend of activities, a course that fosters fun and participation from the youngest swimmers to the most experienced veterans, all in a festival style atmosphere complete with vendors, entertainment and music. This event will be a great celebration of the sport of swimming and all the South Padre Island area has to offer.” said Krayzelburg, a four-time Olympic gold medalist and Chief Financial Officer of Open Water Planet. “This is truly an event for all swimmers whether you are 9 or 89.”

Located near The Sandcastle Capital of the World, the inaugural South Padre Island Open Water Festival offers a 1-miler and 5 km open water swim as well as a 500-yard Kids Dash, and a VIP Movie Screening of The Last Gold.

Her past and present collide in her obsession with a feat that nobody has ever accomplished. At the edge of The Devil’s Triangle, tropical storms, sharks, venomous jellyfish, and one of the strongest ocean currents in the world, all prove to be life-threatening realities. Timothy Wheeler’s documentary brings Diana Nyad’s extraordinary adventure to life as Diana sets out to prove that will and determination are all you need to make the unimaginable possible.

2014 Open Water Swimming Almanac

An Almanac for Open Water Swimming

An almanac is essentially a body of knowledge which is so complete that it enables people in different fields to make predictions about the future of their respective industries.

This, for example, was the purpose of the traditional farmers almanacs. It enabled farmers to determine as accurately as possible which crops to plant for the greatest harvests in a given year.

But the farmers almanac was just one example among many.
There are, of course, many different kinds of almanacs.

In fact, there is even one for open water swimming...

The trends are very clear.
