Swim Serpentine Spots Still Stands
Swim Serpentine is a new 2-day open water swimming festival that will be held in Hyde Park's Serpentine in London on September 24th-25th. This is just in time to swim with one of the pre-race Olympic 10K marathon swimming medalists Among the invited athletes will be 2016 British Olympian Jack Burnell.
Great Britain's medal hopeful says, [To continue competitive swimming or not] is a complete unknown. I think after the Olympics, I will just see how it went and what opportunities might arise and where we can go from there.
Hugh Brasher, Event Director for London Marathon Events, know precisely what he wants to achieve, “Our aim is to grow Swim Serpentine into the largest open water swimming event in the UK. The Serpentine is a wonderful location for open water swimming and is famous worldwide through the London 2012 Olympic Games.”
The second day of Swim Serpentine will host the British Open Water Swimming Championships. On the first day of Swim Serpentine, there is a 1-mile swim.
"1,500 places are available for the mass participation 1-mile swim," says Brasher. “We are delighted to have received more than 4,000 entries for the 1-mile swim on the first day of Swim Serpentine, our new open water swimming event.
“As the open water swimming season in the UK began only this month, we have decided to extend the closing date for the mass participation mile to allow another 1500 swimmers to enter. The entry system will remain open until 1500 applications have been received, or until June 24th – whichever is earlier.
All swimmers in the mass participation mile must wear either a wetsuit or use a tow-float. Both wetsuit and tow-float hire will be available at the Serpentine on the day".

The Other Shore
The Other Shore follows world record holder and legendary swimmer Diana Nyad as she comes out of a thirty-year retirement to re-attempt an elusive dream: swimming 103 miles non-stop from Cuba to Florida without the use of a shark cage. Her past and present collide in her obsession with a feat that nobody has ever accomplished. At the edge of The Devil’s Triangle, tropical storms, sharks, venomous jellyfish, and one of the strongest ocean currents in the world, all prove to be life-threatening realities. Timothy Wheeler’s documentary brings Diana Nyad’s extraordinary adventure to life as Diana sets out to prove that will and determination are all you need to make the unimaginable possible.
2014 Open Water Swimming Almanac
An Almanac for Open Water SwimmingAn almanac is essentially a body of knowledge which is so complete that it enables people in different fields to make predictions about the future of their respective industries.
This, for example, was the purpose of the traditional farmers almanacs. It enabled farmers to determine as accurately as possible which crops to plant for the greatest harvests in a given year.
But the farmers almanac was just one example among many.
There are, of course, many different kinds of almanacs.
In fact, there is even one for open water swimming...
