Escape No Mo Until Next Year

Courtesy of WOWSA, Huntington Beach, California.

It has been a summer like no other in the United States. The 2015 Waikiki Roughwater Swim, the 2015 RCP Tiburon Mile, and the 2015 Big Shoulders were all cancelled.

Now add the 2015 Escape from Lewes Open Water Classic, scheduled on September 27th, to the mix of major races on this summer's American open water swimming calendar that were cancelled due to Mother Nature.

Stephen Del Monte and his team of DelMoSports announced the following to all the Escapers:

"We regret to announce the Inaugural Escape from Lewes Open Water Classic has been cancelled due to potentially hazardous swimming and small safety craft conditions resulting from an offshore low pressure system. This decision was made in conjunction with numerous water safety authorities involved in the event. Ultimately, it is simply too dangerous and we will not compromise the safety of our participants nor the safety of our support services.

That said, each participant may expect a DelMoSports care package with your long-sleeved Escape From Lewes tech tee, finisher medal, swim cap, and FINIS swim cords. You will automatically receive a comp entry to the Escape from Lewes Open Water Swim Classic in 2016.

Thank you for your support and understanding

Rumor has it that the 2016 Escape from Lewes Open Water Swim Classic will be a truly special and spectacular 1-mile and 3-mile event. Stay tuned.

The Other Shore

The Other Shore follows world record holder and legendary swimmer Diana Nyad as she comes out of a thirty-year retirement to re-attempt an elusive dream: swimming 103 miles non-stop from Cuba to Florida without the use of a shark cage. Her past and present collide in her obsession with a feat that nobody has ever accomplished. At the edge of The Devil’s Triangle, tropical storms, sharks, venomous jellyfish, and one of the strongest ocean currents in the world, all prove to be life-threatening realities. Timothy Wheeler’s documentary brings Diana Nyad’s extraordinary adventure to life as Diana sets out to prove that will and determination are all you need to make the unimaginable possible.

2014 Open Water Swimming Almanac

An Almanac for Open Water Swimming

An almanac is essentially a body of knowledge which is so complete that it enables people in different fields to make predictions about the future of their respective industries.

This, for example, was the purpose of the traditional farmers almanacs. It enabled farmers to determine as accurately as possible which crops to plant for the greatest harvests in a given year.

But the farmers almanac was just one example among many.
There are, of course, many different kinds of almanacs.

In fact, there is even one for open water swimming...

The trends are very clear.
The tide is rising for open water swimming.
