By day, Lisa Delaurentis wears a white coat, dispensing advice and medicines as a pharmacist.

"I enjoy helping people improve their own health," she says while her own levels of fitness and stamina reach exceed nearly all on the planet.

Besides competing in half and full Ironman triathlons internationally over the past decade, she balances work with a number of Rottnest Channel Swims and the Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming.*

Delaurentis had arguably the most remarkable 4-year stretch run of 19.7 km Rottnest Channel Swims in history. Like her precision with pharmaceuticals, she has an almost unbelievably precision on her channel crossings in Western Australia. Over the four-year span from 2007 to 2010, she finished within a minute of her final times during each of the four swims: 5 hours 48 minutes in 2007, 5 hours 47 minutes in 2008, 5 hours 47 minutes in 2009, and 5 hours 47 minutes in 2010. She also completed a 5 hour 56 minute crossing and a 6 hour 14 minute crossing in 2011, a 4 hour 56 minute crossing in 2012, a 5 hour 10 minute crossing in 2013 and a 5 hour 37 minute crossing in 2015.

* Her Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming included a 10 hour 34 minute English Channel crossing, a 10 hour 10 minute Catalina Channel crossing, and a 8 hour 1 minute Manhattan Island Marathon Swim.

The Other Shore

The Other Shore follows world record holder and legendary swimmer Diana Nyad as she comes out of a thirty-year retirement to re-attempt an elusive dream: swimming 103 miles non-stop from Cuba to Florida without the use of a shark cage. Her past and present collide in her obsession with a feat that nobody has ever accomplished. At the edge of The Devil’s Triangle, tropical storms, sharks, venomous jellyfish, and one of the strongest ocean currents in the world, all prove to be life-threatening realities. Timothy Wheeler’s documentary brings Diana Nyad’s extraordinary adventure to life as Diana sets out to prove that will and determination are all you need to make the unimaginable possible.

2014 Open Water Swimming Almanac

An Almanac for Open Water Swimming

An almanac is essentially a body of knowledge which is so complete that it enables people in different fields to make predictions about the future of their respective industries.

This, for example, was the purpose of the traditional farmers almanacs. It enabled farmers to determine as accurately as possible which crops to plant for the greatest harvests in a given year.

But the farmers almanac was just one example among many.
There are, of course, many different kinds of almanacs.

In fact, there is even one for open water swimming...

The trends are very clear.
The tide is rising for open water swimming.
