Give A Hand To Swimming Across The Finger Lakes

Bridgette Hobart is setting off on an unprecedented 11-stage 167-mile Nazareth College Finger Lakes Challenge (or The 5 Majors & The 6 Minors Swimming for a Cause).

She will start on July 11th and attempt to swim across all 11 New York Finger Lakes.

"The goal is to promote Nazareth with a focus on the new Wellness and Rehabilitation Institute which benefits the Rochester/Finger Lake communities," said the New Jersey-based Triple Crown swimmer. The first-time event is separated into two challenges: the Majors and the Minors. The Majors includes the lakes over 11 miles in distance, ranging from 15.5 to 38 miles in Canandaigua, Keuka, and Skaneateles in July and 38-mile Cayuga Lake and 38-mile Seneca Lake in August.

Stage 1 - Canandaigua - July 11th, 15.5 miles
Stage 2 - Keuka - July 18th, 19.8 miles

2014 Open Water Swimming Almanac

An Almanac for Open Water Swimming

An almanac is essentially a body of knowledge which is so complete that it enables people in different fields to make predictions about the future of their respective industries.

This, for example, was the purpose of the traditional farmers almanacs. It enabled farmers to determine as accurately as possible which crops to plant for the greatest harvests in a given year.

But the farmers almanac was just one example among many.
There are, of course, many different kinds of almanacs.

In fact, there is even one for open water swimming...
