A Swim And A Stroll Towards Her Future

Photo courtesy of Ron Collins, Clearwater, Florida.

Alexandria Reynolds and Shawn Jolly had swum at their local Swim Across America for three years running.

Reynolds also serves on the organizing committee as a volunteer. But during her fourth year, she had to make extra special planning for this year's Swim Across America - Tampa Bay Open Water Swim in Clearwater, Florida.

She spent extra time to make the event a very special day that she and her husband will never forget.

Jolly, a cancer survivor, and Reynolds were not only happy to take part in the event as swimmers, but also to take their wedding vows on the beach right after the event that raised US$207,000 for cancer research. They even went further when they unselfishly asked their guests to donate to the Swim Across America event in lieu of gifts to themselves.

"We are very grateful for the outpouring of support. It seems we all forget that love and family provide the motivation to make change. Our marriage may have been another reminder that through volunteer work and donations, great things can be achieved. Swim Across America is our gateway to change and we hope all the swimmers out there will join us next year to make even bigger waves."

A report on their story is below.

  1. Thank you for the support. While ABC did misspell my new husband's name (Shawn Jolly, with a J), we are grateful for their help getting the word out about Swim Across America.
We appreciate your interest, as well. Thanks again!

2014 Open Water Swimming Almanac

An Almanac for Open Water Swimming

An almanac is essentially a body of knowledge which is so complete that it enables people in different fields to make predictions about the future of their respective industries.

This, for example, was the purpose of the traditional farmers almanacs. It enabled farmers to determine as accurately as possible which crops to plant for the greatest harvests in a given year.

But the farmers almanac was just one example among many.
There are, of course, many different kinds of almanacs.

In fact, there is even one for open water swimming...
