While swimming naked can mean to open water swimmers that they are swimming without neoprene or a wetsuit, most people understand swimming naked to mean without a swimsuit or covering of any kind.
"It's freeing to swim naked," is what people claim when they swim in their birthday suit.
"It kinda feels the same as swimming after you shave your legs, but all over," remarks Penelope Nagel. "You are completely one with your surroundings."
Why dryland activities do not lend themselves to participating in one's birthday suit, swimming in the open water conveniently does. "Since we are out in the ocean, there generally isn't anyone around so it's easy to just be and not worry. When I talk to non-swimmers about the fact we all walk around in swimsuits with no concern about judgement, I find that as a whole we are much more accepting of our bodies," adds Nagel who leads the 9:30's at the La Jolla Cove Swim Club near San Diego, California.
Several people wrote into Yahoo and expressed different answers to the question why swimming naked feels good?
"It is great especially in the ocean and in the waves. Nothing like having the water right against your skin, [it is a] whole different sensation."
"I love the feeling. I swim naked all the time, 2-3 times a week."
"Because everything feels good when you're naked.
"It is the sensation of the water on your entire body without any material to restrict your movement or influence the natural feel of the water on your skin."
"It feels so soothing around your body."

The Other Shore
The Other Shore follows world record holder and legendary swimmer Diana Nyad as she comes out of a thirty-year retirement to re-attempt an elusive dream: swimming 103 miles non-stop from Cuba to Florida without the use of a shark cage. Her past and present collide in her obsession with a feat that nobody has ever accomplished. At the edge of The Devil’s Triangle, tropical storms, sharks, venomous jellyfish, and one of the strongest ocean currents in the world, all prove to be life-threatening realities. Timothy Wheeler’s documentary brings Diana Nyad’s extraordinary adventure to life as Diana sets out to prove that will and determination are all you need to make the unimaginable possible.
2014 Open Water Swimming Almanac
An Almanac for Open Water SwimmingAn almanac is essentially a body of knowledge which is so complete that it enables people in different fields to make predictions about the future of their respective industries.
This, for example, was the purpose of the traditional farmers almanacs. It enabled farmers to determine as accurately as possible which crops to plant for the greatest harvests in a given year.
But the farmers almanac was just one example among many.
There are, of course, many different kinds of almanacs.
In fact, there is even one for open water swimming...
