Guillermo Bértola And Cecilia Biagioli Test The Waters
Bértola commented, "This week I trained a lot and today the body and the river were treated pretty badly, but my goal was to come to make this swim during a high-volume training week." Meanwhile, the 4-time Olympian Biagioli who gave birth to twins last year, added, "It has been nearly two years since I did an open water race. It is so different, so I'm glad to have come and see the training we have done. My pregnancy was very healthy because I was active at all times and had no problems. I'm fine and I swam slowly because I only starting training seven months ago."
Both swimmers, under the tutelage of coach Claudio Biagioli, were trying to qualify for the X Juegos Suramericanos 10 km race in March. Spots for the Argentina team are up for grabs at the Maraton Patagones-Viedma International Open Water Swim in Viedma, first stage of the 2014 FINA 10km Marathon Swimming World Cup circuit. The qualification race is held before the Maratón Acuática Internacional Santa Fe - Coronda competition. "For me, this season will not be long because I can only compete in the race of Viedma and my main goal is to qualify for the Juegos Suramericanos. I hope to finish in the top ten, provided that race is a good standard," said Bértola who has also competed in the 800m and 1500m freestyle events. "Then I would like to do more of the FINA World Cup races later in the season."
Biagioli loves to participate in the qualification race. "It was very nice to see all these people at the qualifier. I feel a bit of nostalgic because I will be unable to participate in the new Maratón Acuática Internacional Santa Fe - Coronda because it is the most beautiful race in the world."

The Other Shore
The Other Shore follows world record holder and legendary swimmer Diana Nyad as she comes out of a thirty-year retirement to re-attempt an elusive dream: swimming 103 miles non-stop from Cuba to Florida without the use of a shark cage. Her past and present collide in her obsession with a feat that nobody has ever accomplished. At the edge of The Devil’s Triangle, tropical storms, sharks, venomous jellyfish, and one of the strongest ocean currents in the world, all prove to be life-threatening realities. Timothy Wheeler’s documentary brings Diana Nyad’s extraordinary adventure to life as Diana sets out to prove that will and determination are all you need to make the unimaginable possible.
2014 Open Water Swimming Almanac
An Almanac for Open Water SwimmingAn almanac is essentially a body of knowledge which is so complete that it enables people in different fields to make predictions about the future of their respective industries.
This, for example, was the purpose of the traditional farmers almanacs. It enabled farmers to determine as accurately as possible which crops to plant for the greatest harvests in a given year.
But the farmers almanac was just one example among many.
There are, of course, many different kinds of almanacs.
In fact, there is even one for open water swimming...
