Like A White Knight, Phil Organizes Miles And Miles

Phil White has his hands full in 2014 when he organizes and oversees 121.6 miles (195.7 km) of racing throughout the state of Vermont near the Canadian border.

His charm and organization skills are put to the test like only three other race directors in the Americas: David Barra, Rondi Davies and Morty Berger.

In line with the heavy responsibilities of Barra and Davies who put together the 120-mile (193 km) 7 stage race in New York called the 8 Bridges Hudson River Swim and that of Morty Berger's 86.4 miles (139 km) of racing over 10 events in New York City, White has more on his plate than any other race director throughout the Americas.

In 2014, White and his Northeast Kingdom Open Water Swimming Association will offer 13 total races in 6 different lakes.

This full calendar of events include the 6th Annual Son of a Swim (2, 4, 6-mile swims in Lake Memphremagog on June 14th), the 6th Annual Kingdom Swim (100 yard, ¼, 1, 3, 6, 10-mile swims on July 12th), the 4th Annual Seymour Swim (1.75, 3.5-mile swim on August 2nd), the Swim the Kingdom Week on August 9th - 17th that includes the 4-mile Crystal Swim on August 9th, 4-mile Island Pond Swim on August 10th, 6.2-mile Green River Reservoir on August 11th, 6.2-mile Lake Seymour on August 12th, 9-mile Lake Massawippi on August 13th, 6.2-mile Lake Memphremagog on August 14th, the 5th Annual 5-mile Willoughby Swim on August 16th, the 1.5- and 3-mile Caspian Swim on August 17th, the 25-mile In Search of Memphre IV on September 6th, and the 15-mile Georgeville or Bust on October 4th.

The Other Shore

The Other Shore follows world record holder and legendary swimmer Diana Nyad as she comes out of a thirty-year retirement to re-attempt an elusive dream: swimming 103 miles non-stop from Cuba to Florida without the use of a shark cage. Her past and present collide in her obsession with a feat that nobody has ever accomplished. At the edge of The Devil’s Triangle, tropical storms, sharks, venomous jellyfish, and one of the strongest ocean currents in the world, all prove to be life-threatening realities. Timothy Wheeler’s documentary brings Diana Nyad’s extraordinary adventure to life as Diana sets out to prove that will and determination are all you need to make the unimaginable possible.

2014 Open Water Swimming Almanac

An Almanac for Open Water Swimming

An almanac is essentially a body of knowledge which is so complete that it enables people in different fields to make predictions about the future of their respective industries.

This, for example, was the purpose of the traditional farmers almanacs. It enabled farmers to determine as accurately as possible which crops to plant for the greatest harvests in a given year.

But the farmers almanac was just one example among many.
There are, of course, many different kinds of almanacs.

In fact, there is even one for open water swimming...

The trends are very clear.
The tide is rising for open water swimming.
