Katie Scott Swimming For A Cause

After winning overall female division two years running in the Swim Around Key West and finishing third in the inaugural Cape Circumnavigation Challenge, Katie Scott has revealed to herself what she wants to do. "I found that open water is something I love to do and I want to expand my experiences and distances, but also give back while doing so.

I want to contribute all funds [that I raise] with the 2014 Tampa Bay Marathon Swim to go to Swim Across America.

Instead of just doing these longer swims to check them off my list, I wanted to have something else to give back to
," explains the recent Marymount University graduate. "What better way to do this than to provide for this charity. My goal is US$3,000. This is something I truly just love to do regardless of the time it takes me to do it or how I place, completing this swim and being able to give back would make it that much more special."

The swim coach for the college team and the Clark Swim Club has been swimming since she was 6 originally in New Jersey. "I was asked to start an open water team in Virginia. I hope to add the Catalina Channel, the Tampa Bay Marathon Swim, the Manhattan Island Marathon Swim, and eventually the English channel - doing them for a cause makes it that much better."

2014 Open Water Swimming Almanac

An Almanac for Open Water Swimming

An almanac is essentially a body of knowledge which is so complete that it enables people in different fields to make predictions about the future of their respective industries.

This, for example, was the purpose of the traditional farmers almanacs. It enabled farmers to determine as accurately as possible which crops to plant for the greatest harvests in a given year.

But the farmers almanac was just one example among many.
There are, of course, many different kinds of almanacs.

In fact, there is even one for open water swimming...
