Swimming To The Finish

It is always a joy to swim into the finish of an open water swimming competition.

Especially when the crowds are cheering and the shoreline is packed with many spectators waiting in anticipation.

Winners are celebrated, but so are the rest of the field that follows behind.

Like the boisterous crowds that gather at the finish of the annual Plivački maraton Jarak-Šabac (Jarak-Šabac Marathon Swim) in Serbia, the swimmers are treated royally. They are like stars emerging from the water as the fans look upon them with admiration and respect.

The downstream event, a professional competitive race organized by Vojislav Mijić, is held in the Sava River in Šabac, Serbia from Jarak (Јарак), a town of 2,200 people, to Šabac - many of whom come out to enjoy the efforts of the swimmers in the 19 km race.

2014 Open Water Swimming Almanac

An Almanac for Open Water Swimming

An almanac is essentially a body of knowledge which is so complete that it enables people in different fields to make predictions about the future of their respective industries.

This, for example, was the purpose of the traditional farmers almanacs. It enabled farmers to determine as accurately as possible which crops to plant for the greatest harvests in a given year.

But the farmers almanac was just one example among many.
There are, of course, many different kinds of almanacs.

In fact, there is even one for open water swimming...
