It's Miller Time ... Motivating Many
As he hung up his collegiate goggles, Miller transformed himself to a marathon swimmer. Sprinter intensity pent up over 20 seconds is now replaced by marathon endurance demonstrated over 20 miles.
And people are noticing...and listening.
The banker is now on the motivational speaking circuit on behalf of his Team Forever charity.
"Typically, I tailor each speech to the organization to which I am presenting - the audience age, faith or specific cause. The most common theme most organizations want to hear about is what goes on in my head during these long swims or what got me into this sport. I focus on goal setting, never being afraid to push yourself to achieve your dreams and the power of volunteerism which allows someone to realize how much they have been given in life. I believe it is not until you truly appreciate what you have been given, can you figure out your 'calling' in life."
This week, as an example, he will address an organization called All-Pro Dad that was was started by former NFL football coach Tony Dungy. "I chose Goal Setting as my topic, and told them I would focus on the steps one can do to get started on unlocking their dream, and focusing on fulfilling the steps from start to finish."
In a recent speech, he spoke about his English Channel swim, how he set his goals, and saw it though no matter what it took. "More important than the swim, I focused on how I wanted to use marathon swimming as a conduit to get out and speak about the changes I want to see in the world primarily though acts of volunteerism and following the 'narrow path' in life. Afterwards, I had one little boy who I found out later had lost both parents to drugs come up to me and said, 'Mr. Miller, can I tell you my dream?' It was one of the greatest feelings I have ever received."

2014 Open Water Swimming Almanac
An Almanac for Open Water SwimmingAn almanac is essentially a body of knowledge which is so complete that it enables people in different fields to make predictions about the future of their respective industries.
This, for example, was the purpose of the traditional farmers almanacs. It enabled farmers to determine as accurately as possible which crops to plant for the greatest harvests in a given year.
But the farmers almanac was just one example among many.
There are, of course, many different kinds of almanacs.
In fact, there is even one for open water swimming...
