Freedom Swim Series Announced For 2013

Ram Barkai and Juliette Ball announced the 3 events of the Freedom Swim Series:

The series is for the "mad ones who can’t resist an opportunity to get wet, cold, tired and elated," explained Ball. "For the upcoming swimming season we are going to run three main events."

1. Brain Curtis Mile – after 14 years, the date is moved to the first Sunday of the year, January 6th. It is now affiliated with the Midmar Mile and serves as a seeding event to the Midmar Mile.

2. Freedom Swim Series – 5 shorter swims that lead to the 6th and main event, the Robben Island to Big Bay Swim.

3. Ice Swim Africa – the 600m extreme swim and Ice Mile in Fraserburg, Northern Cape.

Barkai and Ball will explain their events and other extreme ice swimming adventures at the 2012 Global Open Water Swimming Conference on the Queen Mary in Long Beach, California on September 21st and 22nd.

Inquiries can be directed Juliette Ball here.

2014 Open Water Swimming Almanac

An Almanac for Open Water Swimming

An almanac is essentially a body of knowledge which is so complete that it enables people in different fields to make predictions about the future of their respective industries.

This, for example, was the purpose of the traditional farmers almanacs. It enabled farmers to determine as accurately as possible which crops to plant for the greatest harvests in a given year.

But the farmers almanac was just one example among many.
There are, of course, many different kinds of almanacs.

In fact, there is even one for open water swimming...
