Brothers Grimsey Wins Trans Tahoe Relays In Record Time

They flew in the dark of night.

Quietly they gathered on the shores of Lake Tahoe.

Fully intent on winning the annual Trans Tahoe Relay, Joey Pedraza, Ridge Grimsey, Trent Grimsey, Codie Grimsey, anchor leg and team captain Peter Thiel and Alexander Studzinski kept their participation strictly confidential for they knew their competition was tough.

But after the group of six world-class open water swimmers set off fast, their stealth status was blown. The team kept up their pace and ultimately broke the course record by 7 minutes in the 10-mile cross-lake relay from Nevada to California, finishing in 3 hours 13 minutes.

Pedraza explained their strategy at the high-altitude lake, "Swim straight and take it easy the first 5 minutes of each leg so we didn't get winded from the altitude. After that, we swam as fast as possible.

I was very thankful to have been selected by Peter and the guys. I met Codie in the Cayman Islands Flowers Sea Swim just one month ago. We had a great race, but this [Trans Tahoe Relay] was a great opportunity. These guys are fun to be around and we share the same passion. They all want to perform at their best in a positive environment
."

That they did.

  1. They didn't break the record - I'm not sure why this article says they did. The record is at least 3:10:41, which was swum in 2008. Source: http://www.pacificmasters.org/comp/08/08tocowoverall.pdf.

2014 Open Water Swimming Almanac

An Almanac for Open Water Swimming

An almanac is essentially a body of knowledge which is so complete that it enables people in different fields to make predictions about the future of their respective industries.

This, for example, was the purpose of the traditional farmers almanacs. It enabled farmers to determine as accurately as possible which crops to plant for the greatest harvests in a given year.

But the farmers almanac was just one example among many.
There are, of course, many different kinds of almanacs.

In fact, there is even one for open water swimming...
