Marnaton..Maravilloso En El Mar
The Cadaqués event is held in the Cap de Creus Natural Park where swimmers traverse 6.5K between the Cap de Creus and Cadaqués. The journey begins in Cala Jugadora (in the Parque Natural de Cap de Creus) to the Platja Gran de Cadaqués with a maximum field of 600 swimmers of all levels. Aid stations are included in anchored boats moored along the route that are clearly marked with orange flags.
The passionate Spanish group also organizes the 10K MARNATON eDreams Garraf - Sitges
MARNATON eDreams de la Luna is a 3.8K held in mid-July from the Puerto de St. Feliu de Guixols to Playa de Sa Conca (S'Agaró) that ends with a delicious meal on the beach.
Three years ago, Miguel Rahola began to imagine a project that combined his love for sports and the sea. The MARNATON founder launch a marathon swimming circuit to help popularize swimming in the sea together with Mirentxu Vignau and a host of other open water swimming collaborators. Their unique brand cleverly combines the words MAR (sea), NATACIÓN (swimming) and MARATHON to establish the brand MARNATON.
In September 2008, MARNATON held its first MARNATON eDreams Cap de Crues - Cadaqués when 190 out of 200 swimmers completed the 6.5K course despite turbulent seas and large swells.
Out of that initial success, Miguel, Mirentxu and team grew to MARNATON II to more than 400 swimmers in 2009. But with heavy seas and strong winds, they opted to do a shorter swim within the safe confines of the Bay of Cadaqués. Despite Mother Nature, MARNATON continues to roll out based on a philosophy of drawing as many people to the sea as possible in order to popularize marine sports, promote healthy living, generate interest to protect marine environments in a sustainable manner, and to partner with environmental causes.

The Other Shore
The Other Shore follows world record holder and legendary swimmer Diana Nyad as she comes out of a thirty-year retirement to re-attempt an elusive dream: swimming 103 miles non-stop from Cuba to Florida without the use of a shark cage. Her past and present collide in her obsession with a feat that nobody has ever accomplished. At the edge of The Devil’s Triangle, tropical storms, sharks, venomous jellyfish, and one of the strongest ocean currents in the world, all prove to be life-threatening realities. Timothy Wheeler’s documentary brings Diana Nyad’s extraordinary adventure to life as Diana sets out to prove that will and determination are all you need to make the unimaginable possible.
2014 Open Water Swimming Almanac
An Almanac for Open Water SwimmingAn almanac is essentially a body of knowledge which is so complete that it enables people in different fields to make predictions about the future of their respective industries.
This, for example, was the purpose of the traditional farmers almanacs. It enabled farmers to determine as accurately as possible which crops to plant for the greatest harvests in a given year.
But the farmers almanac was just one example among many.
There are, of course, many different kinds of almanacs.
In fact, there is even one for open water swimming...
