Brojen Das Open Water Challenge 2012 Announced
The Brojen Das Open Water Challenge 2012 event is named after Brojen Das, an Honour Swimmer in the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame and legendary Olympic swimmer from Pakistan. He was the first Asian to swim across the English Channel in 1959 as well as a number of other marathon swims including the Maraton Del Golfo Capri-Napoli.
He set the English Channel from France to English in 10 hours 35 minutes in 1961 and crossed the Channel a total six times, setting two world records. He was recognized as the King of Channel in 1968 with a legacy that lives on after his death in 1998.
The Brojen Das Open Water Challenge 2012 will commemorate World Oceans Day on June 8th 2012. The event is the first individual swimming event of its kind in Bangladesh. It will play a very significant role in bringing local and global attention on the impact of Climate Change on the poor and the vulnerable as well as raising funds for the Climate Change adoption program.
SAFE is a leading safety organization registered as trust in 2001 in Bangladesh dedicated to the promotion and support of Water Safety and Climate Change. Since its inception in 2001, SAFE has played a pivotal role to save lives at water and on the roads through awareness, emergency response, training and advocacy in a sustainable way.
The Brojen Das Open Water Challenge 2012 is a straight-line 10K challenge from the southernmost part of Bangladesh in Teknaf to the tiny island of St. Martin Island. Teknaf is the only place in Bangladesh that is connected with Myanmar by the Naf river and is a popular tropical tourist zone featuring one of the longest sandy beach ecosystems (80 km) in the world. St. Martin Island (shown on left) is one of the most picturesque open water swimming locations in Bangladesh.

The Other Shore
The Other Shore follows world record holder and legendary swimmer Diana Nyad as she comes out of a thirty-year retirement to re-attempt an elusive dream: swimming 103 miles non-stop from Cuba to Florida without the use of a shark cage. Her past and present collide in her obsession with a feat that nobody has ever accomplished. At the edge of The Devil’s Triangle, tropical storms, sharks, venomous jellyfish, and one of the strongest ocean currents in the world, all prove to be life-threatening realities. Timothy Wheeler’s documentary brings Diana Nyad’s extraordinary adventure to life as Diana sets out to prove that will and determination are all you need to make the unimaginable possible.
2014 Open Water Swimming Almanac
An Almanac for Open Water SwimmingAn almanac is essentially a body of knowledge which is so complete that it enables people in different fields to make predictions about the future of their respective industries.
This, for example, was the purpose of the traditional farmers almanacs. It enabled farmers to determine as accurately as possible which crops to plant for the greatest harvests in a given year.
But the farmers almanac was just one example among many.
There are, of course, many different kinds of almanacs.
In fact, there is even one for open water swimming...
