Denny Ryther Appointed UANA Chairman Of Open Water

SAN ANTONIO. Denny Ryther was appointed as chairman of the Unión Americana de Natación (UANA or the Amateur Swimming Union of the Americas) Technical Open Water Swimming Committee. His tenure will be from November 2012 to October 2015.

Denny, a long-time USA Swimming national open water swim team manager and administrator, will head an esteemed group of experienced open water swimming coaches and administrators from the Americas over the next quadrennial. His UANA colleagues include Jose Ismael Gonzales, Executive Committee Liaison from Guatemala, Jorge Delgado, Secretary from Ecuador, and Chantal Van Keekin Frederik from Suriname, Tomas Haces from Cuba, Gladys Mejia Garcia from El Salvador, Rick Walker from the USA, Pierre Lafontaine from Canada and Ron Jacks from Canada.

Denny's committee is responsible for the preparation and execution of competitive and safe international open water swimming events for the national teams of South America, Central America, the Caribbean region and North America. The group also addresses the needs of the open water swimming community in the Americas regarding the long-term development of coaches, officials and athletes.

An Almanac for Open Water Swimming

An almanac is essentially a body of knowledge which is so complete that it enables people in different fields to make predictions about the future of their respective industries.

This, for example, was the purpose of the traditional farmers almanacs. It enabled farmers to determine as accurately as possible which crops to plant for the greatest harvests in a given year.

But the farmers almanac was just one example among many.
There are, of course, many different kinds of almanacs.
