First National Kimberley Lake Argyle Swim Up For A Sport Award

The First National Kimberley Lake Argyle Swim has been nominated for two awards in the Western Australian Sport and Recreation Industry Awards 2011: (1) Provision of Sport and Recreation to Regional WA; and (2) Community Event Award.

A Sport and Recreation Industry Award is the premier accolade for any organization in the industry and recognizes innovation and exceptional achievement across areas of sport and recreation in Western Australia.

Event Organiser Taneille Anderson accepted the nomination, “The committee is thrilled to be announced as a finalist in two categories. We formed the organization in February this year to provide stability for the event which has been running since 2006 in varying forms, and to be nominated for two awards after operating for such a short time is really exciting. I’m honoured to have worked with such amazing and committed volunteers and swimmers over the past year.

To win one of these awards would be a great compliment to all of their work, Being nominated twice is a great achievement, and will allow us to showcase a fantastic event to the entire state. The Lake Argyle Swim 2011 was a record breaking event, increasing participation by 133%, with visitors from as far as the south of Western Australia, Victoria and India

Bethany McCorkindale from the Department of Sport and Recreation says the ‘best of the best’ of the finalists will also win the prestigious Minister’s Award for Industry Excellence and receives a $10,000 cash prize for the organization.

. The awards will be announced at the Gala Dinner and Presentation Evening on November 25th at Challenge Stadium.

Her past and present collide in her obsession with a feat that nobody has ever accomplished. At the edge of The Devil’s Triangle, tropical storms, sharks, venomous jellyfish, and one of the strongest ocean currents in the world, all prove to be life-threatening realities. Timothy Wheeler’s documentary brings Diana Nyad’s extraordinary adventure to life as Diana sets out to prove that will and determination are all you need to make the unimaginable possible.

2014 Open Water Swimming Almanac

An Almanac for Open Water Swimming

An almanac is essentially a body of knowledge which is so complete that it enables people in different fields to make predictions about the future of their respective industries.

This, for example, was the purpose of the traditional farmers almanacs. It enabled farmers to determine as accurately as possible which crops to plant for the greatest harvests in a given year.

But the farmers almanac was just one example among many.
There are, of course, many different kinds of almanacs.

In fact, there is even one for open water swimming...
