A Juicy Opportunity For Christine Jennings

Christine Jennings who recently qualified for the 2011 FINA World Swimming Championships as the next step in her journey to represent the USA at the 2012 London Olympics 10K marathon swim, wants to become a Jamba Juice Ambassador.

But she needs the help of the global open water swimming community.

Vote here in the online Jamba Juice Ambassador contest.

"My passion lies within my sport, nutrition, and community. As a professional athlete of open water marathon swimming, I travel across the US and the world building connections on a consistent basis. Nutrition is also key factor in being able to compete at a professional level.

Swimming 20 hours per week, dryland/lifting 4 hours per week, and cardio (bike/run) can take a toll on your body if you do not recover and eat properly.

I recently took a move to Mission Viejo, California for training purposes and have been getting involved in teaching swim clinics across the US with many Olympians and National team members as part of promoting USA Swimming. I'm a huge advocate of safety in open water swimming as well, especially in lieu of a good friend and an amazing athlete, Fran Crippen, who passed out in the water and drowned in a race in the UAE because of a lack of safety personnel. I’m a monthly writer for a triathlete magazine, LAVA magazine and volunteered as a youth group leader/mentor at my church in Boulder for a year. I enjoy getting involved and volunteering at my church.

The Other Shore

The Other Shore follows world record holder and legendary swimmer Diana Nyad as she comes out of a thirty-year retirement to re-attempt an elusive dream: swimming 103 miles non-stop from Cuba to Florida without the use of a shark cage. Her past and present collide in her obsession with a feat that nobody has ever accomplished. At the edge of The Devil’s Triangle, tropical storms, sharks, venomous jellyfish, and one of the strongest ocean currents in the world, all prove to be life-threatening realities. Timothy Wheeler’s documentary brings Diana Nyad’s extraordinary adventure to life as Diana sets out to prove that will and determination are all you need to make the unimaginable possible.

2014 Open Water Swimming Almanac

An Almanac for Open Water Swimming

An almanac is essentially a body of knowledge which is so complete that it enables people in different fields to make predictions about the future of their respective industries.

This, for example, was the purpose of the traditional farmers almanacs. It enabled farmers to determine as accurately as possible which crops to plant for the greatest harvests in a given year.

But the farmers almanac was just one example among many.
There are, of course, many different kinds of almanacs.

In fact, there is even one for open water swimming...

The trends are very clear.
The tide is rising for open water swimming.
