Dave Barra's Marathon Swims In His Own Words

Dave Barra finished the Ederle Swim to add yet another marathon swim under his swim cap for 2010.

He did the 9.6-mile Maui Channel between the islands of Lanai and Maui in March in Hawaii. Then the 24-mile (38.6K) Tampa Bay Marathon Swim in Florida in April in 10 hours and 49 minutes. Then completed the 28.5-mile (45.8K) Manhattan Island Marathon Swim in June in New York in 8 hours and 30 minutes.

On his second leg of his Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming, he crossed the 21-mile (33.7K) Catalina Channel in July with a 15 hour and 37 minute swim in tough conditions. Then he did the 8-mile (12.8K) Boston Light Swim in Massachusetts in August in 3 hours. He crossed the English Channel in September with a 14 hour and 27 minute swim and completed the Ederle Swim in October in 5 hours and 37 minutes. He will cap off the season with a 5K swim in November in New York.

Humble, passionate and committed, Dave explains in his own words:

2014 Open Water Swimming Almanac

An Almanac for Open Water Swimming

An almanac is essentially a body of knowledge which is so complete that it enables people in different fields to make predictions about the future of their respective industries.

This, for example, was the purpose of the traditional farmers almanacs. It enabled farmers to determine as accurately as possible which crops to plant for the greatest harvests in a given year.

But the farmers almanac was just one example among many.
There are, of course, many different kinds of almanacs.

In fact, there is even one for open water swimming...
