Michal Skrodzki, founder of the AWF Katowice Open Water Swim near Germany and the Czech Republic, announced that the Polish Swimming Federation approved the June 26th event as the official qualifying race for the Polish team to be sent to the European Junior Open Water Swimming Championships in Hoorn, Netherlands in August. "This means we can expect the best Polish youth distance swimmers to battle it out over the 3K course for a chance to represent Poland."
"This is also a great development for the sport in Poland. The only thing we need to hope for now is good weather."
How events grow when it is seen as a great idea.
"I had the idea for an open water race in Silesia, the southern region of Poland. I orignally pictured a small race that would grow over time, but Tomasz Pąchalski and Paweł Bucki had much bigger plans. Due to their tireless effort, the AWF Katowice Open Water Swim will be the biggest open water race in Poland this year."
