Enjoying Open Water In Mexico And Around The World

One of the world's top open water swimming e-newsletters, from the NYC Swim, published a great article on Leticia Flores Hernandez, a fast Mexican masters swimmer, who combines family travel with her open water swimming schedule.

In 2010, Leticia with her husband Arndt and two children will travel from their home in Mexico City to Manhattan, Wisconsin and Sweden.

That does not count their other trips within Mexico to volcanic lakes in its ruggedly beautiful mountains, meandering rivers through towering canyon walls and the blue ocean waters on its west and east coasts.

After a typical career as a competitive pool swimmer in her youth, the trilingual resident of Mexico found her niche in the open water.

According to the NYC Swim article, "There's no black line — there's so much to look at. It's something you can't control. You don't know what is going to happen."

After visiting Mexico a few times over the past year, we agree 100% with Leticia's view of open water swimming: Mexico is a natural for open water swimming with beautiful, long coasts and numerous rivers and lakes. "Right now, open water swimming in Mexico is booming."
