A Celebration Of Beach Sports In Muscat, Oman

After the first wildly successful Asian Beach Games in Bali, Indonesia, the Second Asian Beach Games will be held in Muscat, Oman between December 8th - 16th, 2010.

In addition to marathon swimming, 45 countries will send their top athletes to compete in the Asian Beach Games will hold competitions in beach handball, beach soccer, beach woodball, triathlon, beach kabaddi, beach volleyball, bodybuilding, sailing, waterskiing, beach sepaktakraw, beach water polo, Jetskiing and tent pegging.

In the first Asian Beach Games, Saleh Mohammad of Syria swam extremely well after competing in the Olympic 10K Marathon Swim in Beijing and stayed in command of both the 5K and 10K races in Bali. He won both events and was named the Samsung MVP of the entire competition, giving a big boost to open water swimming in the region.

As the organizers explained, "Marathon swimming is one of the most grueling events in the Asian Beach Games. Endurance swimmers compete over an open water course and the sport promises to live up to its name with the shores of Oman providing a challenge for these unique athletes."

With Beach Games being held from South America to Oman, it is great to see a celebration of marine sports with open water swimming playing a part.
